Schneiderlin: We can catch Liverpool

Morgan Schneiderlin believes his new club Everton can catch and overtake both Liverpool and Manchester United this season.

The midfielder moved to Goodison Park in January after a disappointing 18 months at Old Trafford where he failed to impress previous manager Louis Van Gaal and current one Jose Mourinho.

The France international has started life on Merseyside well though and with Everton on a hot streak of form and up to seventh place in the table, he feels they can overhaul his former employers and their neighbours.

"We want to finish high and catch the teams above us," he said.

"Liverpool are six points clear, Manchester United are five - so why not? We can catch them if we had a good run of games.

"We need to finish strong so we want to give the fans Europa League football for next season and build a platform."

Schneiderlin has reunited with Ronald Koeman, under whom he played some of his best football at Southampton, and he feels he is the right man for Everton.

"He [Koeman] says what he thinks, but that's important," he continued.

"He wants the players to improve. But he is very calm. He keeps his head on his shoulders no matter if things are going well or bad.

"He tries to say good things and keep it straight. He is a winner - as both a player and as a manager, so it's important we do this for him."
