Sheehan to skipper Kerry

Bryan Sheehan will captain the Kerry senior football team in 2016.

South Kerry, as county champions, had the honour of selecting the Kerry captain for 2016 and they have nominated Sheehan for the position for the season.

Sheehan made his senior debut in 2005 and has made 60 championship appearances for Kerry, while he previously captained the Kingdom in 2010.

Meanwhile, manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has confirmed the retirement of Paul Galvin.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement in 2014 but returned to the county panel last season. He was plagued by injury throughout the campaign but managed to come off the bench during the All-Ireland SFC defeat to Dublin in September.

"Paul won't be back. He is finished up. He got married, is moving back to Dublin," Fitzmaurice is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.

"Other than that, everyone else will be back."
