Sire De Grugy will not run in Saturday's Berkshire Community Foundation Clarence House Chase at Ascot, trainer Gary Moore has confirmed.
Winner of the race in 2014, Sire De Grugy was among the eight horses declared for the Grade One at Monday's five-day stage but Moore had warned that his participation would hinge on his performance in a workout on Tuesday morning.
On the back of his early exit from the Desert Orchid Chase when he unseated Jamie Moore, Moore feels he needs more time before returning to the racecourse.
"He's not going to run at the weekend," said Moore. "It's coming too soon for him. I know he got rid of Jamie early, but he galloped a full circuit.
"He'll go straight to Newbury now for the Game Spirit.
"Ar Mad will run and it at least means Jamie can ride him."
Sire De Grugy's defection leaves just seven in the mix for Saturday's contest with trainer Willie Mullins yet to decide on Un De Sceaux's participation.
