Gareth Southgate has admitted he is 'loving' his time as caretaker manager of the England national team after watching them beat Scotland 3-0 at Wembley.
Headers from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill earned England a comfortable victory over the 'Auld Enemy' a result which leaves them top of World Cup qualifying Group F.
Former Middlesbrough boss Southgate was handed the reins for a four-game period after previous manager Sam Allardyce left the post following a newspaper sting after being in charge for just a single game.
After winning two and drawing one of his three fixtures, Southgate's final game is against Spain on Tuesday but there is much speculation that he will be handed the job on a permanent basis, something which would thrill him.
“That’s not my decision,” Southgate said. "“What I’m really pleased is that I was given the task of picking the
job up in a very difficult situation for everybody and I feel like we’ve
prepared the team really well. I’ve enjoyed that.
“The rest is out of my hands. I’ve loved it. I’ve really enjoyed the
role. I’ve enjoyed the responsibility. I’ve enjoyed the challenge of
every part of it.
“I get that that’s not quite so enjoyable if you don’t get the results. It’s been a brilliant experience.”
The result meanwhile effectively ends Scotland's chances of qualifying for Russia 2018 and could also spell the end of Gordon Strachan's four-year reign.
