Springboks make two changes

South Africa have made two changes from the team that came back to defeat Ireland last weekend for the third and final Test in Port Elizabeth.

Warren Whiteley and Ruan Combrinck have been called into the starting VX after performances off the bench last week.

Combrinck gets the nod to start on the wing over Lwazi Mvovo, who drops to the bench, and he is joined in the back three by Willie le Roux and JP Pietersen as Lionel Mapoe and Damian de Allende join up in the centre.

Whiteley replaces the experienced Duane Vermeulen, who is out with an elbow injury, at number eight in a back row that also includes Siya Kolisi and Francois Louw. Pieter-Steph du Toit and Eben Etzebeth are retained in the second row while it’s as you were in the front row with Frans Malherbe, Adriaan Strauss and Tendai Mtawarira all starting.

"It will be another huge battle between the sides on Saturday,” said head coach Allister Coetzee.

“Both sides have suffered injuries before and during the series, but that it is part of the game and it again provides opportunities for others to come in and stake their claim.

“Jaco has been close to selection every time and he now gets his chance in the match day squad. Steven has worked extremely hard since we got together as a team and he also has an opportunity to show his promise should he take to the field.

“We know what is at stake on Saturday - it’s a matter of winner takes all scenario. This group of players will continue to grow together as a team and Saturday they have the opportunity to gain more experience by playing together.”

South Africa (XV v Ireland): W le Roux, R Combrinck, L Mapoe, D de Allende, JP Pietersen, E Jantjies, F de Klerk; T Mtawarira, A Strauss, F Malherbe, E Etzebeth, P-S du Toit, F Louw, S Kolisi, W Whiteley.

Replacements: B Mbonambi, S Kitshoff, J Redelinghuys, F Mostert, J Kriel, R Paige, MSteyn, L Mvovo.
