South Africa head coach Allister Coetzee has called Morne Steyn into his squad as cover for the injured Patrick Lambie for Saturday's second Test against Ireland.
Lambie was forced off in the 22nd minute of South Africa’s 26-20 defeat to Ireland on Saturday when he received a blow to the head from Irish flanker CJ Stander.
He will miss the second Test at Ellis Park because of concussion and Coetzee has opted to bring Steyn into the panel with the Stade Francais flyhalf told of the news while on holiday in South Africa.
Steyn has scored 694 points for South Africa in 60 Test appearances and he is likely to be named on the bench for Saturday's game with Elton Jantjies expected to start on the bench.
The Springboks will be looking to bounce back after disappointing in the opening Test but Coetzee has hinted that he will stick largely with the same starting XV
“I’m pleased with the reserves that made an impact, that is why they’re there,” Coetzee told reporters.
“But I always believe you give players an opportunity to redeem themselves, they’re all disappointed.
“They all want the opportunity to fix it … there is no reason to panic. The only panic we have is to get it right for next week and the players understand that … they’re really hurting.
“We didn’t only disappoint ourselves but we disappointed South Africa because this team had all the backing and support … that carries an extra load and inspires us to get it back on track quickly."
