Sutcliffe leaves Dublin hurling panel

Danny Sutcliffe has opted out of the Dublin senior hurling squad for 2016.

Danny Sutcliffe has opted out of the Dublin senior hurling squad for 2016.

Sutcliffe played a starring role in Dublin's Leinster SHC success two years ago and was a member of the squad that travelled to Boston for the Fenway Hurling Classic two weeks ago.

However, he has informed manager Ger Cunningham that he will not be available for 2016 with the reasons for his departure not yet known.

Meanwhile, Simon Lambert has accused Cunningham of disrespect after being informed that he was surplus to requirements along with goalkeeper Alan Nolan.

"I'm disappointed to be left out, considering that I've been involved for the last eight years. I came back from a career-threatening injury in 2013, missed all of 2014 and worked myself back into contention, stating both of the Galway games this year," Lambert is quoted as saying in the Irish Independent.

"The reasons given to me were, in my opinion, disrespectful from where I've come from. But look, I'm 27 and young enough still to potentially offer a lot to the team in the near future."
