Take Cover wins King George Stakes

David Allan rides Goodwood winner

Take Cover led from start to finish claim victory in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

It was sweet revenge for the David Griffiths-trained horse who finished second last year but made a perfect start this time out and was rarely in trouble after that as he stormed clear of the 17-strong field.

There was a moment of concern heading into the final furlong as, with David Allan on board, he drifted towards the far rail but had done enough to edge out Washington DC and Goldstream in second and third by a neck and a head respectively.

Speaking afterwards, Jockey Allan said: He's just got raw speed and he really battles to the finish.

"He loves to get on with it, but when something comes at him in the finish, he doesn't half dig in. He's still improving, I think."
