Taylor books Olympics spot

Katie Taylor has qualified for the Rio Olympics after defeating Victoria Torres in the AIBA World Women’s Elite Boxing Championship quarter-finals.

With the four semi-finalists guaranteed a place in Rio, Taylor went into Tuesday's bout knowing victory would secure her a seat on the flight to the Olympic Games and she dominated her Mexican opponent to win all four rounds in Kazakhstan.

The Bray native showed her intent from the opening bell, landing regularly with her left hook, and she took the first two rounds with ease.

She continued to press in the third and fourth rounds, proving too strong for Torres, and she was the unanimous winner with the judges.

The victory means Taylor is now guaranteed at least a bronze medal at the World Championships.
