Texeira on way to China - report

Liverpool set to miss out on target

Chinese side Jiangsu Suning are poised to pip Liverpool to the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira, according to reports today.

The Merseysiders were on the trail of the attacking midfielder during the January transfer window and had at least one transfer bid rejected by his Ukrainian club.

The Premier League side were apparently unwilling to pay above £30m for the uncapped Brazilian, a stance which left them well short of Shakhtar's valuation.

Liverpool however, were reportedly planning on bidding for the player again in this summer’s window, but are at a disadvantage as the Chinese transfer window remains open until February 26.

Jiangsu’s deal for Teixeira – who has scored 26 goals in 25 games this campaign – would be the biggest transfer of the year so far worth around £35million, ahead of Guangzhou Evergrande’s £32million for Jackson Martinez and the £25million Jiangsu already paid for Chelsea midfielder Ramires, as Chinese clubs look set to continue splashing the cash.
