The desire is so high - Ranieri

Leicester five points clear in title race

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri hailed his side’s desire as they battled to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Riyad Mahrez was the star of the show as he produced a stunning strike to seal the win for the Foxes, but Ranieri was delighted with the fight shown by his side as they moved five-points clear at the top of the Premier League.

"An important win, a big battle,” said Ranieri.

“Now there will be only battles for everybody not just for us. A tough match. We created four or five chances, they created two or three.

"I don't know who is behind us, I asked to my players 'every match is a final'. I don't know how many points we need. At the start of the season I said we needed one more than 39 from last season. Of course now we are running for something special.

"We wanted to show what we have inside. The desire is so high and we have a great opportunity. We know the way is very long and very tough.

"The title is not ours. We have to fight a lot, step by step and keep our feet on the ground. At the end we can see what happens. I'm sorry, we know every team can win or lose so it has to be slowly slowly."

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel echoed his manager’s comments and urged his teammates and the Leicester fans to take it one game at a time on the run-in.

"I think all the way through we have had the belief that we have the players going forward to do something special. We are there to provide the fundamental base for them to do their magic and again Riyad has come up with the goods.

"People will think I'm telling lies but it is honestly one game at a time because that is what has got us to this point. We are in a good position but nine games, a lot can happen in that time."
