The New One to try chasing

The New One is to be given the chance to prove himself over fences, trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies has confirmed.

Last seen falling in the Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle at the Grand National meeting, The New One had been expected to remain over the timber for the 2016-17 season.

However, having impressed in schooling session over the larger obstacles connections have decided to let him have a crack in a novice chase later this year.

"We’re actually going to run him in a novice chase. I don’t know where yet but I’m keen on it," Twiston-Davies said.

"We didn’t think we were going to go over fences but we thought we’d try him and his schooling has been brilliant. As soon as the ground is right and we find the right race he’s ready to go."

The New One won the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival but he has failed in three attempts to win the Champion Hurdle, finishing fourth to Annie Power in the two-mile championship earlier this year.
