Tottenham beat Aston Villa in FA Cup

Ben Davies and Son Heung-min netted second-half goals, as Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-0 to progress to Monday's FA Cup fourth-round draw.

After an underwhelming first half, where a much-changed Tottenham managed just a single shot on goal, the Premier League side finally broke the deadlock on 71 minutes thanks to Davies' clever angled header from substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou's cross from the left.

It was the Wales' defender's first goal for Tottenham, in his 69th game for the club since his move from Swansea City in the summer of 2014.

And the impressive Moussa Sissoko, after being denied by Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone moments earlier, set up the second goal for South Korea international Son with a low pass across the area.

Davies praised Tottenham's "winning mentality" after his side's sixth consecutive victory in all competitions, a run that has lifted the North London club into the top three of the Premier League.

"We were starting to get a bit sloppy, making a few mistakes and once we got the first goal we saw the game out," he told BBC Sport.

"We expect a lot of ourselves. To come out here we have to have that winning mentality and we did today."

One worry for Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will be yet another lacklustre showing from forward Vincent Janssen, making his first start since 29 October.

It was another tough afternoon for the Netherlands international, who struggled during his hour on the pitch before he was replaced by Dele Alli

The 22-year-old scored 27 league goals in the Dutch top flight last season, winning the Eredivisie's young player of the year trophy in the process, but he looks devoid of confidence and on a different wavelength to his White Hart Lane team-mates.

His only goals for Tottenham have come from the penalty spot, and he now had 33 shots from open play in all competitions without scoring since his £17m summer move from AZ Alkmaar.
