Tottenham are believed to be in talks to sign AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen.
The 21-year-old, who was the leading goalscorer in the Eredivisie last season, was rumoured to be in London yesterday discussing a potential move to the English capital after the Dutch club gave him permission to talk to Tottenham.
Although reports suggest there has been no discussion as yet between the clubs as regards a fee, it is believed that the striker will cost the White Hart Lane outfit around £12m.
Although Tottenham have been strongly linked with Marseille's Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi, head coach Mauricio Pochettino and some of his backroom team were in Dublin the week before last at the Republic of Ireland's pre-Euro 2016 warm-up game against Holland where Janssen was in action.
According to former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot, Janssen has the ability to make the step up to the Premier league should the deal happen.
"He's scored a lot of goals. He holds the ball up really well, knows where the goal is," he said.
"He's strong enough to play in the Premier League. I don't want to say he's a like-for-like with Harry Kane, because Kane has already shown everyone how to do it.
"Vincent deserves credit for scoring so many goals in Holland but we've seen in the Premier League it won't be a walk in the park for him.
"Technically, he should be able to compete, so now it's just whether he can handle the pressure and expectation."
