Twiston-Davies facing a month out

Sam Twiston-Davies could be sidelined until Cheltenham's three-day Open meeting in November, trainer Paul Nicholls has revealed.

Twiston-Davies was stood down for the remainder of the day when he was hurt in a fall from One More Go at Chepstow on Sunday and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Gloucester.

He is being treated for damage to his spleen and could spend up to a week in hospital for observation.

Nicholls has described the injury as a 'big blow' for Twiston-Davies and admits he could be out for up to a month as he recovers.

"He could be out until Cheltenham's big meeting in November," Nicholls told www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk.

"Whether it's that long or two weeks, we wish him a speedy recovery. When a jockey damages their spleen you have to give it a bit of time.

"It's disappointing as things have been going well. It's a big blow for Sam.

"These things happen and the sooner he's back, the better."

Cheltenham's Open meeting gets underway on November 11.

Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt at UFC 205 in New York on November 12 live on the eir Sport pack. The eir Sport pack is free to all eir broadband customers. To learn more about setting sport free visit www.eir.ie/sport .
