Tyrone appoint Ryan as hurling boss

Tyrone have appointed former Antrim and Carlow boss Kevin Ryan as their interim hurling team manager.

Ryan stepped down as Antrim manager in August following a disappointing season which saw the Saffrons relegated to Division 2A of the NHL, but his three-year spell also saw him guide the county’s U21 side to the All-Ireland final in 2013.

"We’re delighted to have a man of such calibre taking over as Tyrone manager, and we’re confident he will make a positive contribution to the continued progress of the senior team," Tyrone PRO Eunan Lindsay said.

The Mount Sion clubman, who takes over from Dominic Kearns, will lead the Red Hands in their NHL Division 3A opener on 14 February against Monaghan at Castleblayney.

Kearns left the role last week, just a month after succeeding Mattie Lennon, who stepped down at the end of last season following back-to-back league promotions and a first-ever Nicky Rackard Cup title.
