Tyrone reject Harte's extension

The Tyrone County Board have turned down Mickey Harte's request to grant him a one-year extension to his current term.

Harte agreed a new two-year term in 2015 but last month he asked the Tyrone County Board for a further one-year extension, which would have seen him remain in charge of the senior footballers until the end of 2018.

The County Board were expected to ratify the extension at a meeting on Tuesday but, surprisingly, they turned down his request. As things stand Harte's tenure will end at the conclusion of next season.

Tyrone secured the Ulster title this year for the first time since 2010, only to suffer a narrow defeat to Mayo in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
