Van Aanholt to undergo Palace medical

Patrick van Aanholt is to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace after Sunderland accepted a bid for the defender.

Van Aanholt had submitted a transfer request at the Stadium of Light and he has now been given permission to speak to Crystal Palace ahead about a move to Selhurst Park.

It has been reported that Sunderland will receive an initial £10million but the fee could rise to £14million.

"Sunderland have given Patrick van Aanholt permission to speak to Crystal Palace, after the defender advised officials that he no longer wanted to play for the club and submitted a transfer request," Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain said,

"Chief executive, Martin Bain said: If a player openly states he does not want to play for our club, then it is clear that we have a decision to make. In this instance and in regard to this particular player, we have done what we feel is right for Sunderland, which will always be our priority.

"The club has accepted a bid for the defender, who has been given permission to travel to London for talks."

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce worked with Van Aanholt at Sunderland last term and he is looking forward to welcoming him to Selhurst Park.

"Patrick van Aanholt is having a medical today. It won’t go through until every aspect of negotiation, and what the medical might say (has been done). It’s in the process at the moment. I wouldn’t imagine (the heart issue) will be a problem. I’m sure the medical will be okay and he will be looking forward to joining us," Allardyce told reporters.

The news of Van Aanholt's imminent arrival means Republic of Ireland international Robbie Brady will not be joining the Eagles.
