Van Gaal dreaming of FA Cup

Pleased with iPro performance

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says he is dreaming of winning the FA Cup after watching his side beat Derby County 3-1 in the fourth round on Friday night.

United have won the famous trophy eleven times, but their last triumph came 12 years ago back in 2004 and Van Gaal is dreaming of winning it again.

Speaking after watching his side put in one of their best performances of the season as goals from Wayne Rooney, Daley Blind and Juan Mata helped them ease past Derby at the iPro Stadium, the Dutchman was pleased with what he had seen.

"I'm very happy. The result and the performance was good. The confidence is back," he said.

"It was maybe better than we had trained. We played at the right time against the resistance of Derby.

“We gave their goal away but at half-time I said that it was a good performance, keep it up and we will win. And we did.

"The Premier League is very important but the FA Cup is the greatest cup in England with a long and important history.

"We haven't won it for a long time so we dream of it. But after two wins you can't say that we will win it."

There had been plenty of speculation surrounding Van Gaal's future prior to the Derby match, but he is confident that he still has the backing of the Old Trafford board.

"It is not a question of one match. It is difficult to understand, but it is a process. It is a period of three years," he added.

"This board is very intelligent to understand that."
