Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was fastest in this morning’s final practice for the Austrian Grand Prix.
By contrast his title rival Lewish Hamilton had an error-strewn session with brake failure marring his times. Vettell clocked a ewn circuit record time of 1 minute 5.092 seconds to finish two-tenths of a second ahead of Hamilton, while the Briton will have a five-place grid penalty on Sunday due to an unscheduled gear box change.
Hamtilton was the fastest on the track at several points during qualifying before running off the track at Turn Three, due to disc failure, forcing the Briton to ease his car back to the pits in second gear.
Hamilton’s Mercedes’ team-mate was third fastest ahead of Finn Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was fifth fastest ahead of his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. Kevin Magnussen and his team-mate Romain Grosjean were sixth and seventh, ahead of the Toro Rosso duo of Daniil Kyvat and Carlos Sainz.
