Aston Villa have announced that they have cancelled the club's annual end of season Player of the Year awards.
With the club preparing to be relegated for the first time since 1987 - the Villans will be officially demoted before their match on Saturday at Manchester United if Norwich avoid defeat to Sunderland in the early kick-off.
The disastrous season which has seen both Tim Sherwood and his replacement in the dugout, Remi Garde, sacked, and 'scandals' involving Joleon Lescott and Gabriel Agbonlahor, has seen increasing protests against the ownership of Randy Lerner.
The club have warned there will be staff cuts ahead of next season and with the mood around the club so low, they have decided to cancel their awards bash.
A Villa statement said: “The club will not be holding its annual Player
of the Year Awards at the conclusion of this season. In the current
circumstances, we are sure our supporters will understand.”
