Villa suspend Agbonlahor

Aston Villa have suspended striker Gabriel Agbonlahor pending an internal investigation into reports over his behaviour following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

It has been reported that Agbonlahor took laughing gas at a party following the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United which confirmed the club's demotion to the Championship.

Agbonlahor did not feature in the game at Old Trafford after being put on an intensive fitness programme but the club have decided to suspend the striker following allegations about his conduct.

"Aston Villa Football Club have today suspended Gabby Agbonlahor pending an internal investigation," a statement read.

"This is following allegations concerning his conduct at the weekend.

"There will be no further comment from the club in relation to this matter until the investigation has been completed."

Agbonlahor was suspended after he was caught smoking a shisha pipe while on holiday in Dubai during the recent international break, although no action was taken.

Following the investigation, interim manager Eric Black confirmed that Agbonlahor had been ordered to following a personal fitness regime.
