Ospreys and Wales flanker Dan Lydiate will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury it has been revealed.
Lydiate suffered the injury in Wales’ 27-13 win over South Africa last weekend and was taken from the field on a stretcher during the encounter.
Initially the injury was just set to rule him out of the start of the 2017 Six Nations; however, a statement has confirmed that surgery is required and that the British and Irish Lion will be sidelined until the summer at the very earliest.
The news comes as a huge blow to Lydiate, who had only recently returned to action following a shoulder injury which ruled him out of Wales’ summer tour to New Zealand.
