Ward agrees new deal with Burnley

Stephen Ward has signed a contract extension with Burnley which will see the Ireland international remain at Turf Moor until 2019.

Ward, who joined Burnley from Wolves in the summer of 2014, would have been out of contract at the end of season but has now signed a one-year contract extension, with the option of a further year.

The 31-year-old, who netted a brilliant goal in Burnley's shock 3-2 win at champions Chelsea on Saturday, says he is enjoying life in the Premier League after a career spent mostly in the Championship with Wolves and Brighton.

"It's great and long may it continue," Ward told Burnley's official website.

"I'm delighted to have signed. It's just great to be part of a club like this at the minute and hopefully we can have another successful season."

Ward started all but one of Burnley's Premier League games last season, and won a Championship winners' medal in the Clarets' promotion season of 2015-16.
