Wasps must stop danger man Piutau, says Daly

Wasps' winger Elliot Daly expects Charles Piutau to be Ulster's main try threat in Friday's Champions Cup tie in Belfast.

The New Zealand-born full-back, who will leave the Irish province next summer for a record-breaking £1m-a-season contract at Bristol, won plaudits during his season at Wasps in 2015-16, and Daly is looking forward to taking on his former team-mate in Friday's Pool A opener at the Kingspan Stadium, which is live on BT Sport 2 on the eir Sport pack [kick-off 7-45pm]

"He is a great guy – someone you just pass the ball to and he does something special," says Daly.

"It would be nice if he was on our side. He is a quality player, – the unpredictability of him – anything is on at any time. He is definitely up there [as one of the best finishers in world rugby].

"You give him the ball close to the try-line and he is going to get there somehow."

After two victories in the opening two games of the season, injury-hit Wasps have lost their last four matches, and come into the tie against Ulster on the back of Sunday's 38-19 defeat at Saracens.

Daly missed Wasps' early-season victories against Sale Sharks and Worcester because he was on an extended break after playing all three Tests of the Lions' Tour of New Zealand.

The 25-year-old has yet to score in 320 minutes of club rugby this season, but is not panicking about his mini try drought.

"I probably haven't got my hands on the ball as much as I’d have wanted to so far," he continued.

"It has been those type of games where we have scored a couple of quick tries and then conceded a few and we've not had as much possession as we would have liked.

"I'm going to try to get my hands on the ball and link with some players and make things happen.

"We need to get our attack going. In these [European] games we have to try to score some good tries and put some good shapes together."
