WATCH: Nolan expects stern Cuala test


St Brigid's goalkeeper Alan Nolan does not believe recently-crowned All-Ireland champions Cuala will take his team lightly as they begin the defence of their Dublin Club Championship as part of a double-header at Parnell Park this evening.

Last year Cuala were beaten by Southside rivals St Enda in the opening round but recovered to progress to the knock-out stages.

Cuala are targeting a fourth championship in a row - a feat that was last recorded by Boden in 2010, who then went on to make it five straight wins the following year.

And it was just two weeks ago that Cuala beat Na Piarsaigh 2-17 1-17 at Portlaoise in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final replay to make it back-to-back titles.

"They will be on a high," said 32-year-old Dublin hurler Nolan. "But like all good teams I'm sure they'll treat the first round of the competition with all the respect it deserves.

"I think they will be ready for it and I don't think they will be found wanting.They are professional lads . 

"They had their celebrations and will be back down to scratch this week. We will be facing the same Cuala we would have seen two weeks ago."

St Brigid's came close to an upset last year narrowly going down to Cuala in the quarter-finals and will be boosted by the news that Cuala skipper Paul Schutte is out through injury.

St Vincent's face Raheny in the Dublin Senior Hurling Club Championship at Parnell Park on Saturday, exclusively live on eir Sport 2 [throw-in 4pm], followed by Cuala v St Brigid's also live on eir Sport 2 also at Parnell Park [throw-in 5.45pm].
