See Northern Ireland v Rep of Ireland 1993 tonight on eir sport

As a tribute to Alan McLoughlin who sadly passed away yesterday following a long battle with cancer, we are showing the now legendary Northern Ireland v Rep of Ireland World Cup qualifier from November 1993 tonight from 9.45pm on eir sport 1.

It is one of the most famous matches in the history of Irish football as Jack Charlton's Republic of Ireland team took on Billy Bingham's Northern Ireland in front of a vociferous Windsor Park crowd.

Charlton's men needed to avoid defeat to clinch their place at USA '94, but their hopes were hanging by a thread when Jimmy Quinn put the home side in front 17 minutes from time.

All looked to be lost until the ball fell to McLoughlin on the edge of Northern Ireland's penalty area..........

Rest in Peace, Alan - your place in the Irish football Pantheon is secure forever.
