Waterford are set to take their appeal over Tadhg de Búrca’s red card in their All-Ireland hurling quarter-final victory over Wexford to the Disputes Resolution Authority.
The Central Appeals Committee last night upheld De Búrca’s one-match ban, which will see him miss An Déise’s semi-final clash with Cork on Sunday 13 August; the decision was then ratified by the Central Hearings Committee.
Wexford’s Harry Kehoe made a defence of De Búrca in the hearing, which Wexford selector Dan Shanahan commended in the aftermath.
The ban comes as a result of Kehoe and De Búrca clashing late on in the quarter-final tie, for which De Búrca was given his marching orders. The ban is in keeping with the GAA rule book, which states that behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent, including deliberately pulling on or taking hold of a faceguard or any part of an opponent’s helmet should incur a one-match ban.
Waterford manager Derek McGrath is now widely expected to take the case to the DRA, however, no public confirmation of such has been made by Waterford GAA.
