Sunderland have been dealt a blow with the news that Duncan Watmore is to miss the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Watmore was injured during his side's 2-1 defeat of Leicester City on Saturday and a scan has confirmed he suffered a cruciate injury, which will require surgery.
“It is sad news because he is a great boy," Moyes confirmed to talkSPORT.
“Duncan has been terrific for us so he didn’t deserve that, but he will come back.
"These injuries are happening more regularly now, players are coming back, surgeons are better, so we look forward to Duncan returning. But it will probably not be until the start of next season now.”
News of Watmore's injury comes less than a fortnight after Paddy McNair suffered a similar injury, while Lynden Gooch is currently sidelined with ankle ligament damage.
