Weather hits RWC games

World Rugby have cancelled Saturday's games between England and France and New Zealand v Italy as Typhoon Hagibis threatens to make landfall on the southern Japanese coast.

World Rugby have cancelled Saturday's games between England and France and New Zealand v Italy as Typhoon Hagibis threatens to make landfall on the southern Japanese coast.

While Ireland’s game against Samoa will go ahead after originally being under threat, the game between Japan and Scotland remains in doubt and a decision on that won’t be made until Sunday morning.

Hagibis, one of the strongest tropical storms to hit the region in recent years, is expected to strike the Tokyo region this weekend.

However, while World Rugby have moved quickly to cancel two fixtures, a decision on the Japanese Grand Prix which is due to be held at nearby Suzuka over the weekend has yet to be made.

England and France are already through to the quarter-final, with England now set to go through as Pool C winners.

A win, however unlikely, over the All Blacks would taken the Italians through, but New Zealand now top Pool B ahead of South Africa.

Tournament rules state that any cancelled pool games are recorded as 0-0 draws, giving each team two points with no bonus points available.

Japan will automatically qualify as Pool A winners if their game against Scotland is called off.
