Welbeck set for training return
Danny Welbeck is set to return to full training in the next week, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
Welbeck suffered significant cartilage damage to his knee during Arsenal's 2-2 draw at Manchester City in May and required surgery to repair the damage which was expected to keep him out for the majority of the season.
After making good progress in his recovery the 26-year-old was targeting a return to training early in the new year but he ahead of schedule and will join the first-team squad in the coming week.
"Danny Welbeck is one week away from completing normal training. To be back in the squad; that will take some time because he wasn't played for a long, long time," Wenger told reporters.
Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey will miss the trip to the Etihad Stadium for Sunday's clash with Manchester City due to the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the win over Stoke and the defeat at Everton.
"We should have approximately the same squad who went to Everton," Wenger told his pre-match press conference.
"Nobody is back. Aaron Ramsey's not back, he's the closest to come back, so we have some knocks and bruises but they should all be available again.
"Next week, I believe he [Ramsey] should be back in the squad and in normal training."
