Jack Wilshere should be in the England squad for Euro 2016, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said.
Wilshere has not featured for Arsenal this season after suffering a broken fibula in pre-season but has now returned to full training and could return for the club's Under-21 side next week.
England manager Roy Hodgson has already intimated that he will pick Wilshere for the upcoming European Champions and Wenger would be delighted to see the midfielder play in France.
"You want your players to compete at the top level. It is important for Wilshere to play in the Euros," Wenger said.
Sunday's game against Watford is likely to come too soon for Wilshere but he could feature for the U21s.
"We have not decided that (if Wilshere will feature for the U21s) yet," Wenger said. "It is his first week back in full training and we'll see how he responds to that, but the first signs are quite good. We'll assess our options next week.
"We will be cautious with him. He will be back to being fully competitive in about three weeks."
When asked about the progress of some of his injured players, Wenger added: “All the players who were away (on international duty) have come back in good shape. Petr Cech will join training today, but I haven’t decided if he’ll be in the squad tomorrow.
“The other good news is Wilshere and (Tomas) Rosicky are back in full training. (Santi) Cazorla has started to run but he’s still a few weeks away, I think. You have to always be a bit cautious because you never know how people will respond to training.
“Whether he’ll be fit properly before the end of the season, I don’t know.”
