Wenger expects signings

Arsene Wenger is 99% confident that Arsenal will sign players before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

The Arsenal manager has come under fire from some supporters over his lack of transfer activity this summer but the Frenchman has assured fans that the club are working to bring in some new faces before the deadline.

It has been reported that Arsenal have agreed deals for Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi and Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, with the pair set to travel to London to undergo medicals.

"We are working on the deals, but we are not close enough to announce today," Wenger told reporters on Friday morning.

“Will we sign anyone before the window closes? I’m 99 per cent confident.”

Reflecting on the summer transfer window, Wenger added: “It was a strange transfer market, I expected it to be easier than ever, it has been more difficult than ever.

“It looks like it will be frenetic in the last three days, everyone has sat on their money but we know they will all splash out now.”

With Arsenal on the verge of signing two new players, defender Calum Chambers could be heading out on loan.

"I believe that he has been a victim of the size of the squad. At an age where he needs to play, don't rule out he comes back. He could go out somewhere and play, yes," Wenger said of Chambers.
