Wenger hopeful of Elneny deal

Arsene Wenger is hopeful of completing the signing of Mohamed Elneny sooner rather than later.

Basel confirmed earlier this week that the Egypt International would be leaving the club during the January transfer window, with Arsenal heavily linked with a move for the player.

An issue with his work permit has delayed the transfer, but Wenger is confident the deal will be wrapped up in the coming days.

"It’s a little bit complicated, but we work hard on it. I hope in the next two or three days we get to the end of it," Wenger told his weekly press conference.

Wenger has been linked with a move for Watford's Troy Deeney but, while he hopes for some new additions he has ruled out signing the striker.

"I don't rule out anyone else, but he will be at least one of the signings that comes into an area where we are short at the moment," he added.

"Are we interested in Deeney? No, we are not. That is rubbish."
