Wenger wants another striker

Gunners boss keen to bring in extra attacking option

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he would like to bring in another attacker before the start of the new season.

The north London club have signed three new players over the summer with Granit Xhaka, Tasumo Akano and Rob Holding all arriving at the Emirates Stadium.

The club are understood to be in talks with Valencia over a deal for German centre-back Shkodran Mustaki, but Wenger has admitted that he would like to add another striker to his squad.

Arsenal were linked to Gonzalo Higuain before his move to Juventus earlier in the week and had a £29.3m offer for striker Alexander Lacazette rejected by Lyon earlier in the summer, but the Frenchman is hopeful that a deal can be done for the right player.

"At the moment I have not too many attacking options in terms of experienced players," he said following his side's 2-1 win over the MLS All-Stars in San Jose.

"But let's not forget we still have a few players at home.

"There are also a few players who did not play [against the MLS All-Star team], like [Santi] Cazorla and of course [Mesut] Ozil and [Aaron] Ramsey are at home. [Olivier] Giroud is also not here.

"So we have options but we will still look outside to find one more."

Wenger also revealed his contentment with the performance of new signing Holding who played the full 90 minutes in San Jose after completing a £2m move from Sky Bet League One club Bolton Wanderers earlier this month.

"He's adapted surprisingly well - he reads the game well and understands what's going on,” the manager added.

"He anticipates well and that's a quality you don't see very often at such a young age."
