White calls on CM Punk to end UFC career

UFC president Dana White has called on CM Punk to end his time in the octagon after last night's defeat to Mike Jackson at UFC 225.

Punk took significant damage, including a number of direct punches to the face, as well as a ground and pound, with the judges giving a unanimous decision against Punk in Jackson's favour. Post-fight, White admitted he thinks it's time Punk, 39, ended his UFC career, with his record now at 0-2.

"It should be a wrap. The guy's 39 years old. I love the guy - he's the nicest guy in the world. We gave him two shots, and he had a lot of heart tonight in this fight. And yeah, I think he should call it a wrap," said White.

Punk was dominated and submitted by Mickey Gall two years ago in September 2016, with a rear-naked choke ending the battle that day.

The former WWE wrestler was taken to hospital after the fight for a facial CT scan, meaning he missed the chance to give his view on events to the press.

White also commented on Punk's opponent in a negative light, believing Jackson made little to no attempt to finish Punk, instead playing to the crowd in an unconvincing display, with the UFC president considering the fighter to be winless after the display, which took his record to 1-1.

"Michael Jackson, I'm not happy with. This guy was acting like a goofball tonight. You get this opportunity to come in and fight CM Punk, and you're doing like bolo punches to the body - never looked like he was trying to finish the fight ever. It looked like he could have finished the fight a few times, never tried. I don't know what that guy did for a living before we gave him this shot, but whatever it is, he needs to go back and do that again. He's 0-2 as far as I’m concerned," said White.
