Wilshere backs Wenger for success

Boss still hungry midfielder says

Jack Wilshere has praised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, saying that he is a “top manager” who still has a massive appetite for the game.

The England midfielder has suffered a rash of unfortunate injuries over the past couple of years and is nursing a crocked knee in the run-up to the new campaign which starts this weekend.

However, he is confident that he will be fit to make a meaningful contribution to Arsenal’s domestic and European campaigns and has backed Wenger to win a trophy this season.

"I see the same hunger, if not even more," he said.

"He's been great over the years, he's a top manager. I know the Premier League has added some of the best managers in the world, but for me the boss is up there.

"Everyone keeps saying it's going to be his last year but he keeps going. I think he really feels he can win something and do something special with this team."

Wenger, in turn, is hoping for big things from the talented midfielder.

"He has a very big year ahead," the manager said.

"His preparation was encouraging - he had a little, little setback recently but it looks very minor.

"For us to have a great season, it's important to have a great Jack Wilshere."
