Woods to return next week

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will make his return to competitive golf in next week's Safeway Open in Napa.

Woods has undergone two back surgeries since finishing tied for tenth at the Wyndham Championship in August 2015.

Last month the 40-year-old, who missed all four majors in a calendar year for the first time in his career, had announced his intention to compete in Napa and he confirmed his participation ahead of the deadline.

Providing he suffers no ill effects on his return to competitive action, Woods could play in the Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya in November and the Hero World Challenge, which is hosted by his own foundation, in December.

Since his last appearance Woods has slipped to 767 in the world rankings.

Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt at UFC 205 in New York on November 12 live on the eir Sport pack. The eir Sport pack is free to all eir broadband customers. To learn more about setting sport free visit www.eir.ie/sport .
