Zabaleta committed to Man City

Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta has confirmed that he is staying at Manchester City.

The 31-year-old, who lost his place in the City starting line-up to Bacary Sagna under Manuel Pellegrini last season, has been linked with a move to Serie A side this summer, but new boss Pep Guardiola has reassured the two-time Premier League winner that he is part of his plans for next season.

"There was a lot of speculation - that came from the media," he said.

"I don't know how many times I was away to Italy. It was incredible. Every day there was a new club.

"I've always been away from that because I knew from the first day it was my decision.

"I had been told by the new manager that I was part of his squad for this season, so I'm more than pleased because City was my priority.

"I know I only have one year left on my contract, so that creates a lot of speculation about my future.

"But I didn't decide anything before I came back for pre-season to meet the manager and hear from him what was my situation. I'm so happy to be part of Manchester City for this season."

However, City will listen to offers above £17m for midfielder Samir Nasri, with Italian clubs AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma all keen on signing the France international.

Nasri has not played any part in City's pre-season games, and Guardiola was scathing about the 29-year-old's fitness during City's tour of China in July.

"Samir arrived back a little overweight but he is much, much better now," the Spaniard said.

"He has fought a lot during these week but he is a little bit overweight. Last season, he was overweight and had injuries all season and we want to avoid that."
