Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic says Wayne Rooney deserves more respect after enduring a week of criticism.
Speaking after United's 4-0 victory over Feyenoord in the Europa League in which Rooney scored, the former Swedish international described his troubled team-mate as "the perfect player" who deserves more respect after what he has done for club and country.
Rooney broke United's goalscoring record in European competition as his opener at Old Trafford took his tally to 39.
He is now just one goal behind Bobby Charlton's all-time scoring record for the club of 249 and Ibrahimovic hopes that he can help him to go on and break more records.
"He is a fantastic person," the Swede told BBC Sport. "I am happy he broke the record. But I will help him to go one more. That I see as the real record.
"I think when you are famous like that, people are interested. They want to know everything.
"We should appreciate him for the player he is, what he did. I don't see many players from England who have had the same career as him. They should show more respect for him. Everybody wants to make a little thing a big thing."
United just need a point from their final group game at Zorya Luhansk to guarantee themselves a place in the last 32 of competition.
